2007 : It Was A Very Good Year

At the beginning of this year I published the above photo by photographer, Michael Bretherton. In his notes regarding the photo; he mentioned that two seconds after snapping the picture, the ocean waves washed the image away.

I had said that in the grand scheme of time, the year, 2007, would wash away just as quick.

Well, the waves are coming fast and in a few hours, 2007 will be in the history books.

To be honest, I gained weight this year, instead of losing it; I didn't quit smoking; and I didn't win the lottery. But, besides those things, it was quite a good year.

I paid my bills; I played with my grandson, I earned a paycheck, I met some new friends and I made some people laugh and got paid to do it.

Can't beat that.

"Sunday Thoughts"

"A happy New Year! Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year."

Sitting In Front Of My Blog

I've been online most of the day sitting in front of my blog. And sitting in front of my two auxillary blogs. And sitting in front of MySpace. And sitting in front of Comedy Soapbox.

I've searched for photos that were originally on "On The Road" and lost while it was down. I've uploaded a few more in various spots. I'm afraid that some photos will be lost forever.

I helped Skyler make some changes to his blog, and I wrote an update at Comedy This Exit.

At the top of "On The Road With Dave", there should be updates for these blogs, but the feed is not working at this writing. I'm not sure if it has something to do with my broken template or not. I still haven't figured out how to fix that yet.

But, it feels good to be blogging again. I hope all had a Merry Christmas and there will be more blog entries up until the New Year...and of course, beyond.

"Sunday Thoughts"

"In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!'"

Dan Fogelberg--Rest In Peace

From "The Leader of the Band" to his sad Christmas classic tune, "Same Auld Lang Syne", I could always count on a Dan Fogelberg song to bring to my mind some memory that made me smile and feel sad at the same time.

With the announcement of his death from prostate cancer, I feel sad and yet memories of things I did in my youth come to mind that makes me smile.

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 16) - Singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, famed for the soaring vocals and elegant instrumentation of tunes such as "Longer" and "A Love Like This," died on Sunday, three years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He was 56.

"He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side," said a posting on his Dan Fogelberg web site

"His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."

Wanting More

Kathleen VanderVelde at "Things I've Seen" has nailed it once again with her declaration to blog more.

Kathy explains her recent involvement with Facebook and other social networks has taken her away from blogging, and she promises to blog more; because of the satisfaction that blogging brings to the author, as well as to the reader.

"I guess my point is this: If the only way you connect is through social networking, it's like eating only desserts. It's sugary, fun and easy to take. But it always leaves me wanting more, and is, in the end, somehow unsatisfying. Blogging is the meal, the main course, the sustenance. Sure it is more work. But it is more productive. And more satisfying in the long run."

Speaking for myself and my lack of blogging...Kathy hits the nail on the head.

Since, "On The Road With Dave" is back on the 'net; I realize I have missed writing to a wider audience, rather than just corresponding individually to those I'm meeting at MYspace and LinkedIN. (Although, I have recently increased my involvement at LinkedIn.com

I, too, will be blogging more.

Thanks Kathy.

"Sunday Thoughts"

"I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!"

Total Frustration

Howdy Gang.

Guess what I've been doing all day? I've been searching for lost pictures to RE-upload onto "On The Road With Dave"; that were lost while the blog was down and offline.

I've made it up to April, 2005--plus a few random pictures for a few posts from the last several months.

This is frustration.

I make the solemn vow that I will be homeless and living in my car before I ever, EVER let my hosting acount lapse EVER!

DEMAND ME

I've been performing fairly regularly in New Orleans and sure everybody in THAT town wants to see me. And of course, Mobile, Alabama is my home, so no doubt everyone wants to see me there, too.

BUT, where do you live and do you want me to come to your city.

I've set up a page at Eventful, and I'm tracking my results. Demand me in your city and maybe that will result in my performing at a club near you.

If you demand it enough...I will come.

Wait...that didn't sound right.

Anyway , click on the Demand button...I'll be tallying the results through the new year.

DEMAND ME!
Body: It's true that all of New Orleans wants to see me, and no doubt those folks in Mobile, Alabama can't wait to see me perform...BUT, where do you live and do you want me to come to your city.

If you demand it enough...I will come.

Wait...that didn't sound right.

Anyway , go to my profile and click on the Demand button...I'll be tallying the results through the new year.

"Sunday Thoughts"

Since "On The Road With Dave" is back online; it wouldn't be Sunday without an edition of "Sunday Thoughts". In case you're wondering why "Sunday Thoughts" is so important to me and to some of my readers, I thought I'd remind you today of how "Sunday Thoughts" came to be.

From June of 1984

"Last thing for the night, I hope to have developed some form and function to this venture by next week. I may devote certain days to certain topics. Most likely Sundays' entries may be shorter than other entries, possibly quotes that I feel like repeating, maybe occasionally I'll bring up a religious topic, that will probably spur some interesting comments from my readers. It will be the readers' job to figure out what form, function or dysfunction that I chose."
