More Joe Cain Celebration Photos

JOE CAIN DAY 2007

The girl on the guy's shoulder got lots of beads; don't ask how

My Son-in-law snagging some stray beads

"Raisin' Cain!"

In 1866, Mobile, Alabama was under "Union" Occupation and the spirit of the people was down and defeated. The tradition of Mardi Gras had been put on hold and no citizen of Mobile was allowed to protest against the occupation of what was still considered enemy troops.

A local clerk named Joseph Cain decided to have a parade of his own with a small group of friends. Joe Cain, dressed as a fictional Chickasaw Indian Chief named Slacabamorinico, climbed aboard a coal wagon and revived the celebration of Mardi Gras.

Union soldiers were unaware that the Chickasaw Indians had never surrendered during a war and thus were oblivious to the "protest". The parade continued on.

The parade still continues each Sunday before the official Mardi Gras day on Tuesday before Lent. Citizens of Mobile and visitors from around the world join in to celebrate Joe Cain Day.

Joe Cain has many merry widows that lay claim to him and his legacy. These "grieving" widows stop momentarily each year at Joe's Grave to throw roses and beads and dance to "raise Cain"; and then proceed through the parade route grieving and throwing beads to "mourners".

Of course, every funeral procession should have a "blues band" to lead the processional; and Joe Cain "mourners" hear the best.

But, Blues Bands are not the only music heard on the processional. The Joe Cain Day parade is a "people's parade", and the parade floats carry a variety of performers.

"Sunday Thoughts"

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Joe Rogan VS Carlos Mencia

If you don't follow the industry of Comedy very closely then you probably don't know the feud between Comedians Joe Rogan (Fear Factor, The Man Show) and Carlos Mencia (Comedy Central's Mind of Mencia.

It has been alleged that Carlos Mencia is known for stealing material from lesser known comics and using their material in his act.

Joe Rogan, who obviously proves that "fear is not a factor" decides to confront Mencia at a comedy club. The following video qualifies as "viral" in the comedy community; everyone is watching it.

DEFINITELY NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK OR CHILDREN

UPDATE:

It looks like Carlos Mencia has had the video pulled from YouTube. It says because of copyright violation, but the video was taken by Joe Rogan, not Mencia. The video is still available at MySpace. You can do a search for it by typing in Joe Rogan Vs Carlos Mencia. I won't give the link here, to insure that the video stays available for as long as possible. But I would guess another version will surface at YouTube again or will be available at Joe Rogan's website.

UPDATE #2:

Joe has been banned from the Comedy Store for this incident as of today.

Joe posts the full story of the verbal fight between him and Carlos Mencia at his website JoeRogan.Net

Here's the Blog Entry AND the Video!

Save The World One Bulb At A Time

With the recent release of the UN report on Climate Change and Global Warming; the news wires are replete with stories and commentary on what we must do to save our planet from Global Warming; much to the frustration of conservative talk show radio hosts, such as Rush Limbaugh.

And whether you feel Al Gore deserves the Nobel Peace Prize or a one way ticket back to Liberal-land, Communista; the topic is going to be with us for a few more news cycles.

Yesterday I was listening to NPR's All Things Considered, and heard about Brian Huyser's efforts with OneBillionBulbs.Com.

FROM BRIAN'S BLOG(except NO permalinks):

"On a Sunday night in mid July, half-asleep after putting our kids to bed, I heard an expert on a documentary hosted by Tom Brokaw say that if each household in the US changed one standard incandescent light bulb to an energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulb, the result would be equivalent to removing millions of greenhouse-gas-emitting cars from the road. That one data point cut through the fog of my tiredness.

The next morning, I wanted to know more. Had I misheard something? Is it really the case that the combined effect of millions of people changing a light bulb would be equivalent removing millions of cars from the road?

After further research, I was convinced that it is true. Furthermore, I learned that CFL bulbs have another important benefit: they save money. Although the up-front cost of a CFL bulb is higher than a standard bulb, they last up to ten times longer and they consume approximately 65-76% less electricity than a standard bulb, all while producing the same amount of light.

So, one can save money and do good for the environment by changing a few light bulbs. What could be easier? If only more people knew about this, I thought. A short time later, an idea started to form in my mind. The idea was to create a website that would educate people about the benefits of CFL bulbs and organize a campaign to get lots of people to change some light bulbs.

OneBillionBulbs.com is the result of that idea. The name of the site captures the goal. Our goal is to get millions of people all over the world to replace a few standard incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient CFL bulbs. To be sure, the goal is ambitious. Perhaps absurdly so. And yet, the stakes are high. Something must be done.

Are you wondering what you can do about the problem of global warming? OneBillionBulbs.com has an answer: replace some standard incandescent light bulbs with some energy-efficient CFL light bulbs. Your simple, concrete action will save you money and will be good for the environment.

Beyond replacing a few light bulbs, participate in the grand OneBillionBulbs.com experiment. Tell your friends and family about OneBillionBulbs.com. If you have a blog, mention us. If you write for a school newspaper, encourage others check out OneBillionBulbs.com. If you have a website, use some of our free promotional tools on your site.

With enough participation, we can change the world, one light bulb at a time"

You can sign up at OneBillionBulbs and receive free information about the progress of the project and participate by logging in your CFL lightbulb purchases.

"On The Road With Dave" readers can join the "OTR Reader's Group" to log in their purchases as a group effort.

Quixtar IBOs can purchase CFL bulbs through their own business and promote purchase of the energy saving bulbs to their customers. Bulbs are available at Quixtar or through the Quixtar Partner Store; Bulbs.Com

Of course, if you have a better idea to reduce CO emissions and you think it is commercially viable; Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin Airlines will award you 25 Million Dollars over the course of ten years in his VirginEarth Challenge.

Fox News...Fair, Balanced...Clueless

Yeah, so I was watching the news this morning, when Fox News was alerting everyone to the Bomb Hoax in Boston involving an advertising firm working for Turner Broadcasting Company.

The advertising company hired two guys to hang what amounted to "electronic billboards" around the city. The signs featured two characters from The Cartoon Network's TV show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

For about two hours the reporters droned on and on about the "bombs" being a hoax.

Two things that struck me odd.

They weren't suppose to look like bombs, thus how can they be a hoax?

The reporters took about two hours before they even knew exactly what the "characters" on the sign were all about. One reporter had no real clue about Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and looked confused even talking about it.

I know that these guys usually report "serious news" and are all about knowing what is REALLY going on in the world, but geez, The Aqua Teen Hunger Force has been around awhile...don't these guys have kids, talk to kids, seen a kid in the last 5 years?

Just for the record, dear Fox News, here's a simple description of Aqua Teen Hunger Force...

They aren't teens.

There's not really any Aqua involved.

Ummmm...They aren't really a Force of any kind, and although they do eat; the "Hunger" part isn't really relevant, either.

Ya see, the show is about a Box of Fries, A Talking Shake, A Wad of Meat, and these aliens that appeared on these "electronic billboards"

Sometimes, the Hunger Force does genetic testing, there's some bloodshed, usually
a scientific experiment goes awry...and...and...well you guys at Fox just go with the "Bomb Hoax" theory...it's simpler.

Quixtar's Jim Payne Has "Ada-tude"

Jim Payne is Quixtar Corporation's Managing Director or Executive Vice President; and now an official new member of the blogsphere.

Payne's contribution is "Ada-Tudes" ; "which offers perspectives from Quixtar’s exec management about the business, issues, and overall direction." of Quixtar Corporation.

Joining Jim Payne on this blog is Ray Alexander, Director of Marketing for Quixtar.

This newest blog is part of the Quixtar Corporate Blog website; The Opportunity Zone.

Jim opens up the conversation in his Welcome Post and explains the direction of The Opportunity Zone:

"The other key strategy is reputation and building our reputation through greater transparency and honesty. For too long we have let others tell our story and have not responded to counter the negative lies ....or the negative truths. We have a great business, we have tons of positive stories to share with others and to tell the world...... so we're here to tell them.

The Opportunity Zone is a series of blogs (I am new to this whole environment ) that talk about the Quixtar business--- the products, plan, IBOs, sponsorships, how we give back as a collective organization.... It's our opportunity to tell our story and no longer be silent. Personally, I am excited about this forum to speak out, to participate in the conversation and for people to hear how and why this business has helped so many, in so many different ways."

Also included at Jim's first blog entry AND on the Opportunity Zone front page is a video of Payne, basically reading his first entry. I'm sure the video will be released on YouTube, but for now, there's no embed code to watch it off-site.

Let me say, I like Jim Payne. I think he has an attitude about Quixtar and how it should really be ran in a positive way. I think he has ALL Quixtar participants in mind, with new policies being implemented, and not just the Higher-up "muckity-mucks." I hope his blog entries convey that attitude when writing for "Ada-Tude".

Stop by the Opportunity Zone and check out ALL the available Quixtar Corporate Blogs in the Zone, and welcome Jim Payne to the blogosphere.
